Clayton;
A Graveside
Service for Mr. Donald R. Veal will be at 10:00 am Friday at
Sand Bay Cemetery in the Town of Cape Vincent. Per Mr. Veal’s
wish there will be no Calling Hours or Funeral. Arrangements are
with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home Inc. in Clayton.
Don was born
February 23rd 1923 in Syracuse NY, the son of Arthur
and Jessie McQueer Veal. He graduated from Syracuse schools. Mr.
Veal lived in the North Syracuse area working various jobs,
before moving to Clayton in 1973. Fondly known as Red he owned
and operated the Clayton Septic Service and is remembered as
that “ great guy with the funny and witty personality” who came
to pump out their septic tanks no matter what time of day. He
spent many years pumping tanks for Bach & Company and for his
own personal customers until he was 85 years old. He married the
former Eliza “Betty” Jackson she died in May of 2005 at age 84.
He served in the United States Army Air Corp during W.W.II in
England.
He is survived
by one stepdaughter Linda Bach, stepson Glenn Collins, several
grandchildren, Eliza, Ricky, Lindy, and Tyler Pacific, and Glen
Collins Jr., his step grandchildren William, Stanley Jr., Karl
Bach and Elizabeth “Buffy” Golden, great-grandchildren, two
sisters Dorothy and Lucille Veal of California, nieces and
nephews.
One daughter
Mrs. Lori Pacific died in 1997.
Donations can be
made in his name to the Hospice of Jefferson County to be
earmarked for the new hospice home.
