Marian E. Hinman peacefully passed away Monday November 1st
at her home after a long illness.
She
was born June 14, 1930, in Rome, NY, the daughter of Walter
L. and Marian M. Rocker Race.
Marian was educated at Stanwix Elementary Grade School and
Oriskany Central High School, Oriskany N.Y.
Her
marriages brought forth five children, Whitney Lee, Bernard
Harry, Gregory Alan, Kathy Marlene, and Joan Marie Weinkertz.
In 1956,
Marian and husband Joseph Weinkertz moved from Rome, to Clayton,
built and operated the Coffee Cup Restaurant for ten years, at
which time they purchased adjoining property, and established
Seven Acres Trailer Court and Marina, which is presently in
operation owned and operated by daughter Joan and husband Larry.
Marian retired in 2006, after service to her community for fifty
years.
She was
a devoted member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Clayton,
and gave many years of faithful service to St. Anne’s Altar and
Rosary Society, as treasurer and secretary. Marian is a third
order Carmelite having made her promise of her final profession
on 6/29/09 taking the name of Sister Mary Magdelen
In 1989
she was selected as MOTHER OF THE YEAR, by society members, and
later receiving a diploma from the K of C, for religious study
of the Catholic Faith. Marian taught fifth grade religion to
students of St. Mary’s School.
Marian
left Clayton when she married Grant Hinman, and returned to
Clayton in 1997 where she resided until her death. She is
survived by three children Whitney, Kathy and Joan, a brother
Walter, Blossvale, N.Y. A sister, Beverly, Rome N.M.,
great-grand children, grand children, many nieces, nephews, and
cousins, and one aunt, Mrs. Geo, Maxwell, Vernon, N.Y.
Marian
would like to remember two special friends, Mrs. Elmer
Armstrong, Lee Center, and Mrs. Romona Schwindler Verona.
She was
preceded in death by her husbands, two sons, Gregory, and
Bernard, two sisters Carolyn and Faith, and a brother Bernard
(Mike).
In lieu
of flowers, contributions in Marian’s memory may be made to St.
Mary’s Organ Fund, Clayton, N.Y.
Calling
hours will be from 7:00-9:00 pm Friday at the T. R. Jetty
Funeral Home in Clayton. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday at
11:00am at St. Mary’s Church, with Father Arthur LaBaff Pastor
officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
