Robert E. Glitz

Alexandria Bay;

Mr. Robert E. Giltz age 80 of Avery Ave. died Wednesday evening at his residence, where he was under the care of his family and the Hospice of Jefferson County. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church with the Father Douglas Comstock pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt NY. Calling hours will from 4:00 to 7:00 pm today [Friday] at the Giltz Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay.

He was born June 19th, 1930 in Syracuse the son of Harold [Rit] and Ethel Horrell Giltz. He attended Alexandria Bay Central Schools and graduated from St. Francis Prep School in Lorreto PA. In 1956 Bob graduated from Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse. He returned to Alexandria Bay in 1960 to assist his father in the family business “The Giltz Funeral Home”, a third generation business which began with his grandfather Charles A. Giltz in Theresa NY. He operated the funeral home until the time of his death. While working with his father, Mr. Giltz was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 27 years.

He married his wife the former Mary Ellen Markert September 10th 1960 at St. Anthony Padua Church in Syracuse, with RT. Rev. Msgr David C. Gilden officiating.

He was a lifelong communicant of St. Cyril’s Church, the Bishop Conroy Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Alexandria Bay Rotary Club, Watertown Elks Club, Sons of the American Legion and a retired member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also was a member of the Jeff-Lewis Funeral Directors Assoc, N.Y.S. Funeral Directors Assoc., and the National Funeral Directors Assoc.

Surviving besides his wife Mary Ellen is one son and his wife Charles and Suzanne of Baldwinsville NY, two daughters Rita Graham of Windermere Florida and Eileen Giltz of Alexandria Bay and four grandchildren, Nicholas and Katarina Graham and Dawson and Kendall Giltz, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.
