Robert C. Getman

 

Depauville; Mr. Robert C. Getman age 89 died Tuesday at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Bob was born May 31st 1920 in Watertown the son of Ross and Anna Belcher Getman. He attended Watertown schools and enlisted in the United States Navy November 15th 1938. He was honorably discharged September 17th 1945. While in the service he served on many ships including the USS Chenango, the USS Admirabie, and participated in the invasion of North Africa. After his discharge he worked as a paper maker at Knowlton Brothers Paper Mill in Watertown, for 37 years retiring in 1982.He was a 39 year member of the Depauville Volunteer Fire Department, where was also a treasurer and Fire Commissioner. He was a member of the Marching Unit where he carried the American Flag for various parades for years. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and a Syracuse basketball fan.

He married the former Mary Brigham May 18th 1946 in Cape Vincent.

Surviving besides his wife Mary of the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown are one daughter and her husband Carol and Leo Black of Depauville, one grandson and his wife Scott and Tina Black of Depauville, two great-grandchildren, Brittny and Cameron of Depauville, one sister-in-law Rene Getman of Watertown, nieces and nephews. Three brothers Bruce, Lloyd and Earl and two sisters Myrtle Cox and Marion Monica died before him.

 There will be a public graveside service with military honors at 1:00 pm Friday at St. Lawrence Union Cemetery in the Town of Cape Vincent.

There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are with the TR. Jetty funeral Home in Clayton. Donations can be made in his name to T.I.E.R.S. or the Depauville Volunteer Fire Department.
